Sir Peter Medawar was a 20th century British biologist and Nobel prize winner. He was a pioneer in the field of tissue rejection and transplantation. He inspired many, including Christian Barnard and Sir Magdi Yacoub, surgeons who need no introduction to the reader (Figure 1).
